The e-CF is ideally suited to support vocational and educational training. It is fundamentally a competence framework capable of identifying and articulating components of vocational activity to be matched with educational modules.
This section provides examples of organisations applying the e-CF in this context; they have agreed to be featured here.
Academy for Teacher In-Service Training and Staff Development (ALP),
Germany
ALP, the official training centre for public teachers in Bavaria, uses the e-CF as a tool to develop a didactic roadmap to teach network technology in vocational schools.
“In the dual system, schools qualify apprentices at secondary level in partnership with companies. The 16 to 20-year-old students are trained to become IT-Specialists (e. g. “Fachinformatiker”). Education and training is focused upon level 4 of the European Qualification Framework (EQF).
For teachers in vocational schools the e-CF is a useful reference tool that helps to identify the job profile of a qualified IT-specialist. This tool supports teacher by identifying relevant competence development. Based upon a competence descriptor they can develop a matching training program and matching learning scenario.”
Michael Lotter, ALP Lecturer
BCS Koolitus AS,
Estonia
All Estonian qualification standards in ICT are developed on the basis of the e-CF. BCS Koolitus is the official professional certification authority in ICT in Estonia and uses the e-CF to develop the certification tools and principles. The e-CF has been successfully applied for building the common language between employers and universities for curriculum development.
“Using the e-CF has significantly helped the development of ICT competence profiles in Estonia. Before the e-CF we were stuck in long disputes about logical structures of competences. After introducing the e-CF, the time needed to develop a new competence profile has been reduced to 2-3 months and satisfaction with the development process has grown significantly.”

LIDIT Luxembourg Institute for Digital Training,
Luxemburg
LIDIT intends to apply the e-CF in the near future.
