Skills are essential for growth, jobs and social cohesion in Europe, and e-skills are a key competence to make lifelong learning a reality. We must ensure that the knowledge, skills, competences and creativity of the European workforce and citizens meet the highest standard and are constantly updated.

European e-Competence Framework ready for ICT sector use
October 2008 - Following two years' work by e-Skills multi-stakeholder, ICT and human resources experts, the European e-Competence Framework is ready for Europe-wide use. The framework consists of 32 jointly defined ICT practitioner and manager competences as needed and applied on the workplace.
This common European reference tool can be used and understood by ICT user and supply companies, ICT specialists, managers and HR departments, the public sector, and educational and social partners across Europe. It provides, for the first time, a European standard reference for communicating ICT competence requirements in a transnational environment.

The European ICT sector is working towards an e-Competence Framework
October 2007 - A common European reference framework of ICT core competencies adopted by industry will bring major benefits to education, training, industrial and social partners across Europe. This European multistakeholder effort, scheduled to be ready for Europe-wide use by autumn 2008 will provide significant support to ICT skills development across the European Union.
